copying templates from word 2000 to word 2010
I have several word .dot templates on an XP computer with word 2000 that I want to use on a widows 7 machine with Office (word) 2010. Can I copy these .dot files over and if so where (which folder) would I copy them to in office 2010? Or am I getting things wrong and there is another way of doing it?

Re: copying templates from word 2000 to word 2010
You can use Word 2000 templates in Word 2010 without change, but in the long term you might want to convert them to the new format - .dotx for templates that don't contain VBA code and .dotm for templates that do.
To use the templates in Word 2010, you need to copy them to your user templates folder. By default, this is C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates. The AppData folder is hidden, so you need to show hidden files and folders in Windows Explorer in order to see it.
To create a new document based on a template, activate the File tab of the ribbon, click New, then My Templates.
