Line Spacing

Post by weese237 »

When using Word in Office 2021, the line spacing seems to be at 1.5 and not single. I try to change it but nothing happens. I prefer the old fashion way, like a typewriter, [or even typing in this forum!] of having a single line spacing when I hit the return. If I want another, I just hit the return again. I also find that when I copy and paste some text, it also uses the 1.5 spacing even though the applied text is single space.

How to I fix this by default?

Thanks,
Louise

On the home tab of the ribbon, in the Styles group, right-click the Normal style and select Modify... from the context menu.

Select the radio button 'New documents based on this template'.

Click the Format drop-down and select Paragraph...

Set Spacing Before and After to 0 pt, and select Single from the 'Line spacing' drop-down.

Click OK until you're back in the document.
When you quit Word, it may ask you whether to save changes to the default template Normal.dotm. If it does so, click Yes.

I hope that this helps.

I believe Hans has answered your question. I urge you to read Shauna Kelly's writing on Word, though, because treating Word like a typewriter makes your life much harder.

Hi Charles,

Thanks for your reply.

At my age, using a typewriter, for me, is not hard at all. I don't use Word very much any more and using something familiar works better for me. I am retired and I really don't want to start all over again. I would have preferred to stay with Office 2003!

Happy New Year to you as well!
