Office 2010 SP1 released

Post by TonyE »

Office 2010 SP1 is now available. You can get it by using Microsoft Update or from the following links:
Service Pack 1 for Microsoft Office 2010 32-bit Edition
Service Pack 1 for Microsoft Office 2010 64-bit Edition

Thanks, chaps! Worth pointing out that the 32-bit SP1 is a 361 MB download, and if you have the 64-bit version installed (why?) it is 439 MB...

Often with a Microsoft product that has both 64-bit & 32-bit versions some shared files need both 32-bit & 64-bit versions to maintain compatibility with other programs.

Don't forget to check at the Microsoft download center for SP1 for other Office components such as Visio, SharePoint Designer, & others. Just click on the Microsoft Office button in the center of the page and begin filtering using options in the left pane. You might also use the drop down to list from "Newest to Oldest" instead of Relevancy.

Just for interest, the installation of SP1-32 took around 5 minutes on my Q8300 64-bit Windows 7 box. Entirely and pleasingly without incident.

I installed SP1 through Windows Update. It updated Microsoft Visio 2010 toegether with the rest. Perhaps that's why the download for the 32-bit version was 409 MB for me.
Best wishes,
Hans

Download also advised to me on Windows Update but I am confused ... what's new about that I can hear some of you saying
It is offering me the 32bit update but my pc is 64bit although the Office 2010 discs I loaded into this new pc originally worked on my 32bit pc. Is there a difference, should I just proceed

You have 64-bit Windows but 32-bit Office, so you should get the 32-bit update.

Hans

Thanks Hans, will install. When I purchased this software I had no idea there were different 'bit' versions and the sales rep didn't qualify!

I wouldn't worry too much about having 32 bit Office. I don't know of ANY benefit from the 64 bit version except for the ability to create spreadsheets that are so big that nobody else could ever work on them!
