Yes, when I do go into the command prompt, it is a black screen, that you are showing Al. I did try your suggestion and type in CD\, and I did get C>. After getting that response, I typed in fsutil dirty query c: The response from that was, c is NOT dirty. Obviously, thats good news, and again, you came to the rescue Al!!! I do appreciate your genuine help! I guess I can ignore the message I get from windows saying, windows found a problem with the file???

OK, now that we know that the drive is NOT dirty, we can get back to the CHKDSK question! When you run a CHKDSK on the C: drive and have to let it reboot to perform the check, the results window (for me) flies by so fast that you may not be able to catch what EXACTLY Windows says it has found, i.e. what problem, with what file(s) ???

So, if that's the case, and we need to know the results of your CHKDSK, here's how to get there. After Windows finishes booting, go to Control Panel and under Administrative Tools you should find an app called EVENT VIEWER. See first attachment. If you select Application in the left pane, somewhere in the right pane you should see an entry for WINLOGON. In my example there are three because I do chkdsk for three partitions. When you find Winlogon, double-click it and you should see something like my second attachment.

What we're looking for here is the detailed results of what chkdsk says is wrong with your C: drive. If need be, you'll have to tell us what it says or try to make one or more screenshots so we can discuss it.

EDITED LATER: I forgot to tell you that if you click the button in the upper right corner that looks like two pieces of paper, it will copy all the text in that window to the clipboard, making it easier for you to show us what it says.

I followed your instructions, and I did get the screens you suggested. But, when I click the paper button to copy that screen to the clipboard, unfortunately I get lost. I understand that would make things easier to copy, for you to view. But, I just can't figure out what to do after I click the paper button. I can't find access to the clipboard? How do I access clipboard, after I'm done with clicking on the paper buttons that copy that screen? I've heard of the clipboard, but have never used it. I know that isn't the subject, and I hope this isn't getting too tedious and boring for you, but hopefully you can bare with me. I do see the screens you show, and the info that those screens show. But, to copy that info I'm finding hard to do. Windows won't even allow me to copy and paste the winlogin screens, that you suggest I copy. Thanks again Al.

No sweat, you're doin' OK so far. Just in case you've copied something else since then, do the "paper" button again. It's then on your clipboard. (Unless you run a clipboard extender program, only ONE thing at a time can be in your clipboard. But that's a matter for another "lesson.")

Now do another post here and when you're in the post composition window, just press CTRL V and the text from your clipboard should appear in your post. Then all you have to do is click SUBMIT.

It should look like this:

My friend, I think you're good to go! I hope if another Lounger thinks I've missed something that he will jump in here, but I don't see anything wrong in your results. The most recent is the one from TODAY and it looks OK to me.

So unless there's something else we need to know that you haven't said thus far, it looks like you're on pretty solid ground.

I'd suggest running a CHKDSK once weekly just so that nothing bad gets time to "compound" itself.

Do you have any other questions?

No I don't Al. It would be understatement, to thank you for your help and patients, and walk a rookie like me through the issues I had. Again, thank you!
