System Restore - XP Pro, SR3

Post by uncle »

Hi -

System Restore on XP Pro is much slower than on my XP Home pc, which is older. And, Pro has fewer programs. Its file system is NTFS, if that tells you anything.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Thank you.

How old is the system restore point you're trying to reload?
Best wishes,

That shouldn't really make much difference. Do you have the same security software running on both PCs?

I'm afraid I don't see an obvious explanation for the difference in speed then, sorry...

If you have to perform a system restore again, you could keep an eye on the Processes tab of the Task Manager. If you sort the processes descending on CPU usage, you can see which processes take up a lot of processor capacity. (You can sort the list by clicking on the CPU column header; clicking a second time reverses the sort order.)
Best wishes,
Hans

Thanks for that, Hans. But can I access the Task Manager/Process tab while System Restore is "doing its thing?"

No idea, actually, I never use System Restore. Perhaps someone else can tell you.

No. you won't be able to access TM during a System Restore.
I don't think it's a matter of your using XP Home vs. Pro.
I assume you have the two OSs on TWO machines?
What is the difference between the two types of hardware you are comparing?
