Updates problems

Post by Dave Davison »

Almost every time I log on I get a prompt in the sys tray that there is an update available but repeatedly updating fails (see screenshots). Despite the constant downloads being said to have failed, when I log off a message appears saying do not close down as updates are installing?? Something obviously amiss but beyond my grasp hence this shout for help. Regards Dave.

I have moved this thread from the Other Applications forum to the Windows 7 forum, since it is about an update to Windows 7.
Best wishes,
Hans

It appears that you need to install another update first. You can get it from this link:

2018-10 Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3177467)

See if the problem resolves itself after that.
Best wishes,
Hans

Your link gave me strange results on my Win7 32bit Desktop pc. It ended with No updates for my pc.

The link is for 64-bit Windows 7 (that's what the "x64" means). For 32-bit one is

2018-10 Update for Windows 7 for x86-based Systems (KB3177467)
Best wishes,
Hans

In that case, I don't know what to suggest. Perhaps someone else will have a helpful suggestion.

Its not good practice to hide updates, (and its probably more pertinent to do this with optional updates you know you don't want), but if that update cannot be resolved and you don't want the annoyance of this updated prompting you, you can simply right click on it in the update window and choose "Hide". For detailed steps, see here.

Thanks Rudi..........I tend not to bother with optional updates rather selecting only the critical ones but these are the ones that will not download. Had not bother with updates till a few weeks ago so am puzzled as to why. Just tried again a note that the download reaches 95% then aborts, just wondered if this factor suggests anything to switched on guys? Regards Dave.

One other option: the Windows Update Troubleshooter from Microsoft. Select the version for Windows 7 and 8.

Hi Dave, Don't know if you wanted to go this far but MS has the following step by step solution to that error code(s) listed in your screenshot.
You can take a look at this site.

Thanks Bob.......followed those instructions OK BUT wonder if -because I am running Windows 7 - the option .NET Frame 3.5.1 does not appear as one of the options? Regards

OOPS Sorry failed to note that the word Microsoft precedes .NET Frame 3.5.1 so will proceed and see how it goes.

Hi Dave, you dont mention if your pc is 32 or 64 bit. This is on both of mine installed by PatchMyPc.exe

Hi Bob. followed those directions but the said to be Critical update will still not get past the 95% download point. Then downloaded PatchMyPc, ran it, ticked the .NET Framework option and updated it but still no luck.....looking desperate......Dave.

The screenshot in his first post clearly shows that Dave has 64-bit Windows 7 (x64 means 64-bit, x86 means 32-bit)
Best wishes,
Hans
