Video quality is lost when I import MP4 files into Windows Movie Maker

Post by jmt356 »

I am using Windows Movie Maker to make a video presentation. I am recording using my camera and saving the recordings on my hard drive. I am then recording presentations of slides in PPT by using Slide Show | Record Slide Show and then exporting each video as an MP4 file.

I then go into Windows Movie Maker and import my MP4 files into my movie project, but quality is lost and the videos are not sharp. How can I fix this?

I believe Movie Maker only supports 1920 X 1080 resolution. If your video is a higher resolution it will be reduced. You need a third party program such as VLC.

Also, remember that Movie Maker was released in 2011 or 2012. It was dropped in 2017 with the rest of Windows Live Essentials. No support. It still works but the advances in recording quality in the last 5 years make its limitations problematic.
