Portal statistics - User per day?

Post by ChrisGreaves »

Please and thank you, what is meant by "Users per day"?
If that is an average of the number of newly-registered members, it suggests that Eileen's Lounge has been around now for 6.47 years.
But if I assume that "1" is rounded from between 0.5 and 1.5, then Eileen's Lounge has been around for 9.71 years.

Members=2,365 and Topic=37,246 generates an average of 15.74 topics per user, which would make sense.

Thanks, Chris

It is the average number of newly registered users per day, rounded to the nearest whole number.
2,365 is the number of users whose account is "active", but there are almost 2,000 users who have registered a username but never activated it, or who have been deactivated by the Administrators for various reasons. The total comes to 4357.

Eileen's Lounge was created on January 15, 2010 - that is 4671 days ago. So it comes to almost one new user per day.

(And then some inactive users were completely deleted some 10 years ago when we ran out of disk space, but they don't count)
Best wishes,
Hans

I don't really see the purpose or usefulness for this statistic. Wouldn't active users or visits per day be a more meaningful measure of activity?

It is incredibly useful if it diverts Chris Greaves from asking more awkward questions.

Thank you Hans.
So like most online forums I have visited, and most real-life human societies for that matter, statistics of membership should be treated with caution. I abide by the premise that "Management Measures", so some datum is better than no datum at all, But without the specification of the datum, the background story, the datum will be suspect in most cases.

Thanks for this, Leif.
"it takes the overall member count and divides it by the the amount of days the board has been running to give you how many members have registered per day, obviously on a small board this can be less than one member per day.".
I am tempted to head over there and ask what is meant by "overall member count", but at least we now know why the average family has 2.3 children - it's to cater to phpBBs that need a fraction of a member!

And if it doesn't?
