office 2007 - autocorrect entries

Post by diana »

hello

With the office 2007 upgrade default autocorrect options were deployed.

The issue is when the Outlook autocorrect settings are amended the autocorrect settings are reset.

steps are
Open outlook, goto menu Tools, Options, Spelling, click Spelling and Autocorrection, click AutoCorrect options, tick/ untick the settings, clciK OK
close outlook
reopen outlook
the autocorrect settings are reset.

I think its GPO over writing the user settings.

Ive done a web search I couldnt find much on how Office 2007 shares/uses teh autocorrect options. its just basic info on autocorrect options

my questions are:
I understand Outlook as a basic Word editor - inherits the autocorrect entries from Word.
Powerpoint and excel also has autocorrect settings
There is only one autocorrect file - were using English AUST
C:\Documents and Settings\<UserName>\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\MSO1033.acl

How does the microsoft applications share autocorrect words
How does the microsoft applications share autocorrect settings ie
in Word, click Office button, click Word Options, click Proofing, click AutoCorrect Options, tick/untick the settings.
in Outllook goto menu Tools, Options, Spelling, click Spelling and Autocorrection, click AutoCorrect options, tick/ untick the same settings, click OK

if any - what are the related registry keys for teh autocorrect settings?

note these arent formatted autocorrect entries
these are autocorrect configuration settings

any insight would be greatly appreciated

thank you

dd

For Word

Registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data
Entry Settings; this is a binary value that contains a whole lot of Word settings

For Outlook:

Registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Options
Entry WordMailACOptions; this is a binary value.

For Access, Excel and PowerPoint:

If the AutoCorrect settings haven't been changed from the default, there is no registry entry for them. The first time one of the settings is changed, the registry key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Common\AutoCorrect

is created, with an entry in the right-hand pane for each modified setting. If you change a setting in one of Access, Excel or PowerPoint, the change will apply to the others too. For example, with only the Correct Two Initial Capitals settings changed from the default:
S00048.jpg
(The screenshot is for Office 2010, but it's similar for Office 2007, just replace 14.0 with 12.0)
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Best wishes,
Hans
