Edited to change http:// to https://

Everyone who registers a username with Eileen's Lounge has to agree with the following Terms of Service:

By accessing "Eileen's Lounge" (hereinafter "we", "us", "our", "Eileen's Lounge", "https://www.eileenslounge.com/"), you agree to be legally bound by the following terms. We may change these at any time and we'll do our utmost in informing you, though it would be prudent to review this regularly yourself as your continued usage of "Eileen's Lounge" after changes means you agree to be legally bound by these terms as they are updated and/or amended.

House rules for Eileen's Lounge

Post by HansV »

Updated 23-Apr-2014: Inserted new Rule #13.
Updated 11-Nov-2015: Added some new rules and edited existing ones.
Updated 15-Mar-2017: Added clarification to Rule #9.
Updated 29-Aug-2017: Added new rule 12 and renumbered later rules.

  1. Read the FAQ before posting
Please take a moment to read the Frequently Asked Questions (the link is available on every page) before you start posting. Bear in mind that not all features of phpBB (the software behind this forum), such as 'Friends and Foes', have been enabled in Eileen's Lounge.
  2. The aim of Eileen's Lounge
The aim of this forum is to offer help and guidance, and to educate and entertain. We are not here to supply complete solutions - there is little value in providing assistance if nothing is learnt. Our hope is that you will leave the Lounge wiser and more self-sufficient than when you logged in.
  3. Do not make demands of other members
Please keep in mind that all members, including the VIPs, Moderators and Administrators of Eileen's Lounge are volunteers. We cannot guarantee that your questions will be answered or that your problems will be solved.
  4. Do not make private requests
Please keep your questions and answers on the public forums. We discourage sending or asking for replies via e-mail or private message. Private requests defeat the purpose of Eileen's Lounge, which is designed to share information as widely as possible. If you're worried you'll miss any replies, tick the check box 'Notify me when a reply is posted'. You can do this when you post a new thread or reply, or afterwards by editing your post. You can also set your notification defaults globally in the Edit posting defaults section of your User Control Panel.
  5. Keep threads on topic
When starting a new thread, choose the appropriate forum and give your post an informative title. If you are reporting a computer problem, be sure to supply relevant details of your problem and your setup to help in identifying a possible solution. For example, specify the version number of Windows or the Office application you're posting about. When replying to a message, keep to the topic. If your message isn't on topic, then it should be a new thread, not a reply. If your post is in response to an existing thread, do not start a new one. Please do not waste our space and time with trivial ramblings; show consideration for busy people (which means all of us!). Avoid meaningless titles such as "I need help", unhelpful comments like "It doesn't happen on my computer" and the notorious "Me, too" response.
  6. Post answers you find to your questions
If you find the answer after posting a question in Eileen's Lounge, please add a reply so that the answer can be of use to others in the future. It is helpful if you explain how you resolved your issue, with credit given to other sources as appropriate.
  7. Avoid edits that make threads unreadable
We know you all like to keep things tidy, but remember, your message may be a key part of a thread that suddenly becomes nonsense if you remove your contribution.
  8. Post a single "thank you" for help received
If several people have contributed help in solving your problem, there's no need to post individual thank-you replies to each of them. Make one reply to the topic, thanking them all. If you start your reply with "Thanks to all," people can skip it if they're in a hurry.
  9. Avoid cross-posting into two or more forums
Cross-posting is the posting of the same or similar messages on more than one forum (for example, posting the same message in both the Access forum and the VB/VBA forum here in the Lounge) or posting the same message here and on other boards (such as OzGrid or Microsoft Community). This can easily lead to confusion and to duplication of information. Please choose the forum that is the most appropriate and post your message there. If you prefer to post the message in multiple boards, please append links to the posts in all boards that contain the duplicate messages. The reason for this is to prevent people wasting their time replying to your question when it has already been answered in another place. Besides good manners and etiquette, it also provides a way to connect the solutions supplied in the various forums for easier reference.
  10. Be careful what and how you write
Bear in mind our members come from many countries, races and backgrounds, and have wide ranging beliefs and cultures. Take into account English may not be their first language, avoid flaming other Loungers, and keep posts suitable for 'family viewing'.
We will not tolerate any abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening, sexually-oriented, political, religious, racial or any other material that may violate any applicable laws or cause offence to another Lounger.
We may remove posts that lead to heated discussion, even if they are factually correct and reasonable in themselves.
  11. Do not post advertisements
Posts with blatant links to commercial sites, or to products or services for sale, will be considered spam and deleted without warning. You may, however, include links in your signature and profile as long as they are reasonable. If in doubt, please contact an Administrator. You may recommend a site that may be of help (your own included), but only if it answers a question that has been asked by another member within the topic in which you are posting. We do not allow classified ads of any sort. This is an information exchange forum, not a product exchange. If you wish to purchase or sell something, please visit sites that are specifically set up for those transactions.
  12. Do not post, or ask for, information about hacking or cracking
Do not ask for help to circumvent passwords or other protection mechanisms, and do not post instructions or links to information that will help others to do this.
  13. Do not post pirated or illegal material
Do not use Eileen's Lounge to transmit copyrighted material in any way without the express permission of its owner. An exception is made for short extracts from copyrighted text where an acknowledgement and/or link is given.
  14. Using our graphics elsewhere
All our graphics are copyrighted. If you would like to use our smilies (non-commercially) outside Eileen's Lounge, that's no problem, but please tell people where you got them from and give a link back to Eileen's Lounge.
  15. Avoid overly busy graphics
Avoid including unnecessary animated graphics in both your userpic/avatar and posts. They may be fun at first but can become tiresome very quickly.
  16. Liability
The Administrators, Moderators and Members of Eileen's Lounge accept no liability for advice, instructions or code posted in any forum. All entries are made in good faith and use of any content is at your own risk. We accept no responsibility or liability for the content of external sites that may be linked to and the inclusion of a link to an external website should not be understood to be an endorsement of that website or the site's owners, products or services.
  17. Compliance
You acknowledge that the Administrators and Moderators of Eileen's Lounge have absolute editorial control over all content at all times. The Administrators may update these Rules from time to time so please review these pages regularly.
  18. Last but not least
Enjoy your time at Eileen's Lounge!
Best wishes,
Hans
