Error 1327 Invalid Drive F

Post by Leesha »

Hi, I am installing software to my laptop and keep getting the 1327 error re invalid drive F. I have many posts related to this error and the need to make changes using regedit. I've followed these links and can find no references to the F drive. I've seen downloads to "fix" the problem but am always suspicious of those. I'm running Windows 8.1.
Thanks,
Leesha

I agree that you should be suspicious of downloads claiming to fix such a problem if they're not from Microsoft itself.

From your description, I assume that you have seen You receive an "Error 1327. Invalid Drive" error message when you try to install Office 2000 and followed steps 1 through 7.

Can you find any references to F:\ in the registry editor?
Best wishes,
Hans

i can't help you too much here since I'm still running Win7 ( :rose: ) but I assume you DO have a drive F, or not?
Does it only happen when you try to install a particular piece of software or any one?
The registry edits you mention are the ones listed here? ( for Office )
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/327763" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

BTW, those downloads that promise to fix "the" problem are usually just registry cleaners and are not aimed specially at the problem you are having.

Hi,
To answer Hans's question, yes that was the link I was talking about and no I didn't see anything with an F. references to the C drive or there was a % sign. No reference to F. Any reference to default said (value not set).

To answer Bob, I do have an F drive but that is only for usb peripherals such as a external HD or DVD player. Even when I don't have anything plugged in I get the error.

Can you find F:\ at all in Registry Editor (not in the locations mentioned in the Microsoft Support article)?

Hans

Is there a way to do a search or do I need to go through each layer?

Some additional advice ... if needed.

(1)
Could it be a mapped drive sitting in memory somewhere?
Delete a mapped drive with command line using the ‘net use’ command.
For example to disconnect the network share mapped to the drive F: we can run the below command.
net use /del F:

Maybe clearing the F from mapping (if applicable) will help

The following two assisted in resolving similar issue in Windows 7 Forum
(2)
Change, add, or remove a drive letter

(3)
User Folders - Restore Default Locations

Rudi

I do find references to F for the program I want to install. Is there an easy way to change these from F to C using the cmd prompt?

You can edit the entries directly in RegEdit - double-click an entry relevant to the program, and change F:\ to C:\

I was hoping there was a way to do it as a batch as there are many of these to change.

You probably don't want to replace ALL instances of F:\, only those relevant to your program.

Advanced Regedit (win32) is a free utility that works like Regedit but adds a Replace dialog. You might use that.

I changed all of the F's to C's and still got the same error. I decided to restore back to an earlier date and start from scratch and this time it worked. Not sure what was going on but am very relieved that its all set! Thanks for all of the help and suggestions.

Seems like (1) reboot or (2) go back to previous restore point are the two best pieces of advice to suggest
Glad its resolved Leesha
