Reducing distractions in the new Google Maps

I find the new Google maps very confusing and distracting. Among the distractions is the new box that appears under the search box with photo tours and photos. I find I can get rid of it by clicking on the map, but then it reappears whenever my mouse hovers near the search box. Is there a way to minimize it permanently?

BTW, you can go back to the older version of Google Maps for now - click on the ? (question mark) button in the lower right corner, then click "Return to classic Google Maps".

I assume this option will eventually disappear, though.

I think that is part of the functionality of the new maps. It provides smart information based on your search criteria. When you click on the map it provides details for that location and quick access to Street View. It does disappear/minimize automatically when you zoom in and out or drag the map to re-position it. I suspect that you will just need to make peace with it.
