Same Email App Open in Multiple Devices

Post by richlocus »

Hello:

I have six computers that all use Outlook. I set them up with identical email addresses in Outlook because at times I bounce between them. For example, they all have their primary email address such as rich@outlook.com. That way, if I have to use any of them, they all will arrive at the target email address showing they were send from rich@outlook.com. Now... if a client sends an email to rich@outlook.com, and several of my computers are on and Outlook is active, will the same message arrive at multiple computers? Or will it deliver to only the first one.

I tried testing this with mixed results.
How is this situation handled by the Outlook mail server?

Thanks,
Rich Locus

How do these Outlook clients connect to the server?

If they use IMAP or an Exchange server they should all see the same emails.

If they use POP3 then there is a setting to tell the server when to delete its copy of emails that you download. You need to set this to keep messages for a while so that other computers get a chance to download too.

Stuart:

Thanks... I use Outlook so the anomaly was related to a cell phone I just configured connecting to Hostmonster. I will focus on that issue.

All the other Windows 10 based computers seemed fine.
