Searching for contents of files saved to OneDrive does not work

Post by jmt356 »

I am using Windows 10 Enterprise. When I save a file to my C drive, search works for both words in the file name and for contents of the file. However, when I save a file to my OneDrive folder on my D drive, search only works if the word I am searching for is in the file name. Files do not turn up in search if the search term is in the contents but not in the file name.

All of the folders on my C drive, D drive and OneDrive folders all have "Allow files in this folder to have contents indexed in addition to file properties" ticked.
Regards,

JMT

Try the following:

In Windows, click Start > Settings.
Click Search.
Under 'Cloud Content Search', turn on 'Microsoft Account', and if you prefer, 'Work or School Account'.

JMT, look in your OneDrive Settings.

If it wasn't for bad luck I'd have NO luck at all.

After checking more carefully, somehow my D drive was not in my Included locations for Indexing Options. I don't really understand how that is possible, because all of the files in D had "Allow this file to have contents indexed in addition to file properties," despite the fact that D was not included in Indexing Options. Including it fixed the issue.
