Where is Cortana

Post by sobershea »

Somehow, I hid Cortana and now I can't find it (her). I have a Search Windows bar in the taskbar. Right-clicking it does not show Cortana anywhere. I cannot find "Turn Cortana On".

TIA

try clicking on the Windows start button (bottom left hand corner) and scrolling down the apps until you reach Cortana - then click on it. Alternatively - just type 'cortana' in the search box and click on the result.

Edited to add a ps: once you find 'cortana' then right click on it and you'll get the options to pin it to start menu

Keith

If aekyall's suggestion doesn't work, you may have to change a registry setting, assuming that you use the Anniversary update released in 2016:

Click the Start button.
Type the word regedit and press Enter.
Allow RegEdit to run.
Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search in the left hand pane.
Look for entries named BingSearchEnabled and CanCortanaBeEnabled. Both should be set to 1.

Sometimes Cortana is cold. It is not always impossible to turn her on, but when you can do . . . .. va va voom!

BobH, lol!!

aekyall, I had done that with no luck.

HansV, that was the answer! I now have Cortana back! Now I'm trying to get her to use Google instead on Bing. BobH, not only is she cold, she is very stubborn!!

Thanks everyone!

I'm not sure Cortana can be coaxed to use Google - she's very Microsoft-minded!

I didn't read this before passing along, but it certainly seems on point. Does this help?

Kim - just before the instructions on how to do it the line: Update: Microsoft has since closed this technical loophole, so we’re all stuck using Bing again. has been inserted. You can't beat big brother  !!
