Having never experienced this before (and not making the above association) I spent quite some moments wondering if I had just downloaded some malware (or worse) through my action in Word to accept a downloaded doc for editing and saving. Eventually within Action Centre I noticed that the desktop had been changed to Tablet. Clicking Tablet off restored back to normal.
Just for information in case others experience this ...
