Upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 7 and Windows 8

Is upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 7 and Windows 8 free or does the user need to pay for the upgrade or purchase a new license?

The 'free upgrade' to Windows 10 from Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 is free until 29th July 2016.

It is always possible that the deadline may be extended, but there's nothing on this at the moment except speculation.

Only the Enterprise versions of Windows can not be upgraded.
