Adblock Plus works on Safari. See AdblockPlus download.

Many of us here use uBlock Origin as our ad-blocker for Firefox. I'd go as far to say it's the best ad-blocker for FF. However, uBlock Origin is not available for Safari. Whether or not that means uBlock Origin won't work on FF on an iPhone though, I don't know.

Check the App Store on the iPhone. Maybe come back with a list of a few that are available. Someone here may have an opinion.

Thank you Stuck and Joe. Upon reading the description of the ad blockers in the App Store, I realized that they were too ambitious for me and that I didn’t explain. what I was after: I read The Times and Washington Post online and would like to eliminate those ads. Probably not possible, but if anyone would know, the answer would be on the Lounge. (I don’t, of course, have them when reading the papers online.)
Thank you for your time.

Check for ad-blocking extensions in Firefox. Most are easy to install (at least on a PC).

I use uBlock Origin on Firefox on an Android mobile phone with the same almost-total success as on a PC...

I don't have an iPhone, but as far as I know, Safari is the only browser engine on iOS. All other browsers (Chrome, Firefox, ...) are just modified skins on top of the Safari engine. So I'm not sure that Firefox extensions will work on iOS.
Best wishes,
Hans

Other than recommending you switch to Android, see if anything at 5 Best Adblockers for iPhone and iPad in 2023 helps.

Ah, yes, you are quite correct. Another good reason to switch to Android!
