Esc Key Not Working

Dear Community,

I am using windows 8.1 in my HP laptop. After i press start menu it shows apps but when i press esc key its not close the start menu. esc key not working. But hardware i mean keyboard is working fine. No problem. Can we resolve this issues? Kindly help me. Thanks.

It might have to do with Intel HD Graphics, ATI Catalyst Control Center or Adobe Photoshop - see Photoshop causing other programs not receive ESC key

Is this a recent issue? Can you think back to any new apps or updates you installed between it working and now? If it is recent, maybe doing a system restore to an earlier point could help?

I am not using Adobe Photoshop. But I am using Intel HD Graphics Driver. Sir if i change any graphic driver like NVIDIA, will it resolve this issue? Sir how to select NVIDIA Graphic driver for our system. I am trying to install NVIDIA Graphic driver from HP support center. My system is HP Notebook 15-r201ne Operating System is 8.1. HP support center shows NVIDIA available for this system. But i couldn't install. NVIDIA shows this system not meet specified requirements. Then i leave it. Now i installed Intel HD Graphic driver only.

No sir, now only i installed new OS and drivers. It's not an issue cause of new installed app or any other software sir.

Have you got an external keyboard, like a WiFi keyboard for example, that you can try, just to help determining if it is a hardware or software problem ?

From the thread I pointed to:

Control panel → Display → Change display settings → Advanced settings → tab "Intel® Graphics and Media control panel" → button "Graphics Propertries" → Options and Support → Hot Key functionality → uncheck "Enable"

Sorry for late reply. I tried this method sir. But it doesn't work sir. I don't have external keyboard. So i couldn't try with external keyboard. But i think my esc key is not working it might be hardware problem. Because i checked with excel and other softwares to check whether esc key is works or not. When i click any menu then if i press esc key It's not working sir. I will try with external keyboard. Thank you so much sir for everyone

You need to test the keyboard, there is software available for this. I'd give Passmark's keytest a go, it offers free trial for 30 days, should be enough time for you

Thank you so much sir. Its really helpful. Sir tried this method. Here i attached screenshot of my test sir. This software not indicates failure of esc key sir. if i pressed esc key nothing happened sir. But this software shows that different color for different process like pressed, failure and so on. If i pressed esc key nothing happen sir. One more thing i tried with on screen keyboard sir. if click esc key in on screen keyboard its working sir i mean start menu disappear sir. I think hardware problem sir. Thank you so much sir

2. Test your keyboard
3. Check your driver
4. Check for viruses
5. Run the keyboard troubleshooter
6. Uninstall Synaptics Pointing Device driver
7. Turn off Filter Keys
8. Uninstall recently downloaded software
9. Check the keyboard for dust or foreign matter
