In Gmail is there any way to make your contact list private so that social media cant search it?
I have searched the WEB and found nothing but I don't always use the best of search terms so maybe someone here knows for sure if this is possible or not.

I'm not certain what happens if you have a Google+ account, but if you don't, I don't think there is a way for third parties such as social media to see your Gmail contacts.
(I suspect that the NSA has full access to your Gmail messages, contacts etc.)

Re: Keeping Contacts Private In Gmail.
I'm not sure what it is but often get messages from Facebook and Linked in that seem to indicate they know who the contacts in my gmail account are but I'm not certain that is the case. I just never click on any of there messages that say something like this:Dear so & so,
See who from your contacts you already know on LinkedIn. Now it's easy to connect with people you email.
Since that Linkedin account is associated with Gmail I assume they have searched it but I am not 100% certain of that.

I'm not on Facebook, nor on LinkedIn, yet I get spam messages from both - at least they appear to come from them. Not sure whether they are real or fake. I simply throw them away without reading them.
Best wishes,
Hans

I'm fairly active on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Google+
The only one of these that ever seems to use my gMail contacts is Google+
