I used to use a package (So long ago I forget its name) that auto-downloaded and auto-uploaded a large file and gave me a report on my hard-wire connection speed.
Please and Thank you, what are people using nowadays to test the speed of a WiFi connection from a Win7 laptop?
I see "Okala" mentioned in this forum thread so I shall check that.
Mainly I'm curious about whether a WiFi or Hardwired connection makes any difference.
Also: From memory I could choose my source City (Chicago, Los Angeles, New York etc.) even though I lived in Toronto.
Testing WiFi from Toronto, is there a city I should prefer? Nearest? Biggest? etc
Thanks in advance
Chris

Re: WiFi speed tests
About your other question: usually, a geographically near server is best, but since speed varies from server to server, I'd try a few and compare the results. There are 19 servers available in Toronto...
Best wishes,
Hans

Re: WiFi speed tests
I find that my WiFi connections run at about half the speed of my wired connections, going through the same router. That could be highly hardware-dependent, as well as depending on some of the TCP settings in the drivers.
