Hey Leif, THANK YOU for that link. That is a very, very helpful perspective. Never seen anything like that before. Now the only thing I need to do is get the time difference memorized.

I didn't get to watch the South Africa match, but I hated to see that they had to play to a draw. It's always nice when the host country wins their opening match. BUT they're still in it.

I'm watching the Uruguay-France game as I write, but can't wait for tomorrow afternoon! I sure hope they STOP with those irritating horns!

They won't - the vuvuzela, as it's called, is very popular in South Africa. The FIFA originally wanted to ban it for the World Cup, but this was not realistic.
The sound of the vuvuzela already caused a lot of irritation abroad during the 2009 Confederations Cup that was also held in South Africa. It's now becoming popular in The Netherlands too (in an orange-colored version, of course) :flee:
Best wishes,
Hans

Oh lordy, I'm gonna have a headache again this afternoon! I guess we can turn the sound off on the TV. Commentary isn't usually necessary during a soccer/football game.

Sheesh, they learn young don't they:

And, according to that article, quite dangerous to your health! Yuck.

I do remember however that I've been somewhat guilty in the past too. When my son and I used to attend the old NASL games, such as the New York Cosmos, I (and a handful of other people) used to carry a compressed air horn but most of the time people used them only on the scoring of a goal. Ahhh, memories of guilt now abound...

"They" tend to say that a draw is better than a loss and so it is. I think the referee was a little wild with the caution cards but at least he was "equal" about it with three on each side.

I'd be less than honest if I didn't say that England was the more "powerful" team and with 57% possession time it would be hard to argue with that.

If it weren't for the England keeper's blunder it would have been a USA loss. It seems he treated the shot a bit to softly and it got away from him.

It was a good match anyhow and my son and the two grandsons and I enjoyed watching it. Now, good luck to both sides in their next matches.

Not in World Cup it ain't!

Now tomorrow is another match of high interest for me - Germany and Australia. I'll be home in time to watch that one while I have a few brews!

OK, here we go with what should be a good match: Germany and Australia about to kick off...

The difficulty for me is that I like and admire both sides but it looks like Germany is favored.

As I understand it, first the Danes got an own goal, then the Dutch got their own goal (which wasn't an own goal).

Ah, fuggedabodit. Have a  or/and :chocciebar:
