* In China, an old village farmer owed a large sum of money to an ugly old neighbour.
* Farmer had a pretty young daughter who the neighbour was fond of.
* Neighbour suggested if he could marry the daughter he would wave the debt.
* A proposition that horrified the father and daughter.
* The old lender suggested that chance should determine the outcome of the proposition.
* That he put two pebbles (one black and one white) in an empty bag and the daughter would pick -without looking- one of the stones.
* If she picked the black one she must marry him and the debt would be cancelled.
* If she picked the white one she need not marry him and the debt would be likewise cancelled .
* If she refused to pick the father would go to jail.
* The old man bent down and selected two stones to put in the bag but the girl -being sharp eyed- noticed he had selected two black stones but said nothing.
* What did she do? Pick out one stone and marry the man! Pick out both stones at once and prove him a liar! OR WHAT.
* Simly to say she did not have to marry the old kodger & father remained free.
