What's This?

Post by StuartR »

I was tidying up my tools and I came across this, but I cannot for the life of me remember what it's used for!

Its a board perforation device.

Place a one inch thick wooden board in-between the metal slates, and then twist the handle to drive the metal spike into the boards. I guess it will take a day or so to perforate the one edge of a medium size board...but the bonus is that you will have Popeye size forearms when you are done!

The threaded metal pin is completely blunt, it might be able to perforate balsa wood but nothing more substantial.

Could it be a tubing expanding device?

Please elaborate, I cannot quite grasp where the tubing would go or how this would expand it!

Tubing lay in so plunger was in line with it, the a strap wrapped around the device to hold tubing place. Then the handle turned and the plunger entered tubing to expand tub.
It would be a fixed size, so each diameter of tubing would have a different device or if plunger was removable, then a different size of plunger could be used.

....I too have a gadget like the one in the first photo and it was designed for taking a link out of a motor bike chain. Only difference is that the threaded screw on mine has a reduced diameter on the end for for the purpose of pressing out the pin which is riveted over. DD

Something you have to buy to justify all those strange tools taking up space in the garage.
