What a relief! Earlier this week, thanks to something mentioned in one of these forums, I fired up Speccy. Version 1.23, I think, with which I had had no previous problems. It showed my motherboard temperature to be 110° C. I was debating taking the computer in to the shop when I just saw the post above. I installed version 1.25 and it shows the MB temp to be a much more reasonable 16° C.

Once more Eileens's Lounge (and its members) have saved the day!

Thank you.
Regards,
Paul

If installed does this program run at all times or can it be started and used when wanted?

It can be started and used when wanted.
It is a standard application that can be opened and closed as needed.

If your absence does not affect them, your presence didn't matter.
