Mystery Copy

Post by Ted Myers »

I am using Edge browser. When I send a message from my Gmail account to anyone, the message appears in Mozilla Thunderbird. (it uses the same Gmail account.
I have tried Mozilla Support but it does not help.
If it wasn't for bad luck I'd have NO luck at all.

Where does the message appear? In the inbox, or as a sent item, or somewhere else?

Have you configured Thunderbird to use POP3 or IMAP to access your gmail?

Hello StuartR, I use POP. If I send an email in Edge browser, it appears it TB inbox.
If I send mail using TB, it appears in Gmail All Mail folder.
I also get mail on my Android phone, its hard at times to remerber if I have opened it.
If it wasn't for bad luck I'd have NO luck at all.

You might find things a bit less confusing if you use IMAP instead of POP. This will cause changes to replicate so that when you move, or read, a message on your browser or Thunderbird (or Android app) the same change will happen on all the others.

Years ago, I used TB using IMAP, it tended to over ride my preferrences, so tried POP3 as it was then. It suited my Modus Operandi as I could decide what happens when accessed using POP.
I might never have tried TB again if Google had left it's mail app as it was.

I wouldn't recommend using the new Outlook for now. It's another half-baked product that lacks features. Perhaps in the future...

(For example, it lacks support for both POP3 and IMAP!)
Best wishes,
Hans

I had an outlook.com account in the Windows Mail app. I use it to open .eml files and to test the font in my other mail accounts.
After trying it, I returned to the original setting. Some how MS did not like what I had done, calling it a violation of something or other, so I just created another but it is hotmail and still works. I never got the outlook one to allow access.

Seems there is no one at Thunderbird Support who have tried what my problem is. I have tried IMAP settings on the portable version, it does the same.
