Names of Outlook contacts spontaneously changing

Post by jmt356 »

I use Exchange to manage my contacts.

I have a series of contacts in Outlook named in the following pattern, where the first contact contains generic information about a contact and the others have specific information:

London
London - galleries
London - hotels
London - restaurants
London - transportation

I recently found that “London” was renamed to “London - galleries,” such that I had two “London - galleries” contacts. I did not make the change.

Similarly, I have series of contacts as follows:

Post Office
Post Office - fees
Post Office - hours
Post Office - ombdudsman

I recently found that “Post Office” was renamed to “Post Office - hours,” such that I had two “Post Office - hours” contacts. Again, I did not make this change.

This occurrence occurs relatively frequently, whenever I have a series of contacts, with the first contact being a generic one that is followed by contacts with more specific information.

What could be causing these changes and how do I stop it?
Regards,

JMT

After the contacts are renamed are they exact duplicates?

No; the contents of each contact do not change. Only the name of the root contact is changed (for example, "London" might be changed to "London - galleries."

In addition, the formatting of the notes section of the root contact is sometimes modified, but the actual content of the text is not changed.

In addition, the formatting of the notes section of the root contact is sometimes modified (plain text is put into styles), but the actual content of the text is not changed.

Do you have any add-ins running in Outlook that may access contacts?
Do you sync contacts with any other services or devices?

I have a Zoom and Teams add-in, but I don't think they can access my contacts.

I sync contacts with my phone. That might be responsible for the changes to the contacts.

I tried following the suggestion at https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/out ... 7d64fead70 and will continue to monitor this issue.
