Cannot configure Google Chrome to Open to a specific page

Under Google Chrome | Settings | On Startup, I configured Google Chrome to Open to a specific page or set of pages.

However, Google Chrome is still, on most program launches, opening up to a Google search page that is blank in the address bar. Why is this?

There are many many possible answers if you Google "Chrome does not open to my homepage". Have you searched Google for a possible answer? Google is your friend.

Run a thorough scan with all your antivirus/antimalware programs, to make sure that you don't have any browser hijackers.

The free version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is a good choice.

I agree to scan and check for malware and/or browser hijackers.
I put three locations into my startup setting and on close/reopen, the necessary pages open without issues. (No blank page).

The issue is intermittent for me; sometimes it opens to my set Startup page; sometimes it opens to a Google search page with a blank address line.
