Google Chrome question

Post by mishmish3000 »

Hi! I love having a very minimally crowded browser screen. With the new Google Chrome, I noticed that my most recently visited sites are showing up (here's a screen shot),

no matter which theme I choose. Can I just have sites in my bookmarks bar, and not on the actual browser screen? If so, how do I go about setting those settings... I've searched and not been able to figure out how.
Thanks

I found the following suggestion:

- Go to chrome://flags/
- Press Ctrl+F.
- Search for "Enable Instant Extended API".
- Select Disabled from the dropdown below it.
- Restart Chrome.
Best wishes,
Hans

Thanks Hans! I did that, and now I see:

If I click on the caret to the left, I get this:

I was hoping to just have a screen that said "Google" with a search box in the center, and no icons in the way. perhaps I'm being over-picky and expecting too much from Google. I did enjoy some of the coding comments I saw when I inspected the elements of the page:

Google is getting a lot of flack over this change - apparently they got predominantly negative responses when they tried it out earlier this year, yet they rolled it out to all users...
Best wishes,
Hans

I might be barking up the wrong tree, but if I browse to: http://www.google.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I get the screen as in the image below. (The one you posted above seems to be the page that opens with a new tab). You could modify the link address in Chrome settings to open to the google link when Chrome starts and when clicking for a new tab.

Or you could use Firefox and set Google as your home page
