Re: Firefox 6 released
I recommend keeping version 5 till 7 comes out, then upgrade to version 6. ( might not work but worth a try )

Re: Firefox 6 released
Why would you want to do anything about it?
If you wish: Firefox 3.6.20 has also been released on the 16th of August. See Firefox 3.6.20 Release Notes.
Download from Mozilla Firefox 3.6.

Not a problem for me.
I stay well-back of the bleeding-edge of technology for a reason.
But I am considering moving forwards on the browser issue.
I've had a few malicious thingies crop up recently on Malware scans.

Re: Firefox 6 released
I installed both Fx 6 and TB 6.HansV wrote:Firefox 6 has been officially released. You can get it from the built-in update mechanism or download it from Mozilla.

TB went OK without any incompatibilities.
FX went OK but with one incompatibility ( Open Download ) but I hacked it's install.rdf file to make it max v. 7 and that fixed that.
I am thinking of changing all of the .rdf files to about max ver. 15 or so, to bypass this "monthly" upgrade thing.

Re: Firefox 6 released
Wouldn't that compatibility thing make it easier? I only had a couple last time and it made 'em work without any problem. What you're thinking of doing might cause problems somewhere down the road. (I haven't run Fx 6 yet so don't have a report.)viking33 wrote:I am thinking of changing all of the .rdf files to about max ver. 15 or so, to bypass this "monthly" upgrade thing.

Re: Firefox 6 released
I tried that "reporter" thing last time around and I forget what it was but didn't like it hanging around or something, so went the .rdf file route. Haven't experienced any noticeable problems yet. Just for kicks, I did change one of the add-ons to max Ver 15. Happy as a clam!Bigaldoc wrote:Wouldn't that compatibility thing make it easier? Even Mozilla recommends for alpha and beta users only.

Good deal - if it works and ya like it, DO IT !!!
PS I haven't done that hack for so long, I've forgotten where the .RDF files are. Can ya refresh my ol' memory, please Bob?

Re: Firefox 6 released
If I was short on time, would you know if Firefox works on my Win 3.11 machine? OK, just trying to sound like more of a luddite than Chris... I doubt it would fit on my 85 MB harddrive.HansV wrote:Why would you want to do anything about it?
If you wish: Firefox 3.6.20 has also been released on the 16th of August. See Firefox 3.6.20 Release Notes.
Download from Mozilla Firefox 3.6.

BTW I'm in no rush for the latest versions of software, or even updates. They seem to be appearing much more regularly (cf Flash Player). Software is more complex (bigger) then ever before and I'd rather wait until the initial fireworks and excitement have died down.
In particular, I read a quote from an MVP recently advising not to install Office 2010 SP1.

Instead of me retyping the location out, see John Gray's post HERE
Look in both Firefox and TB folders.

http://www.access-programmers.co.uk/for ... p?t=212868Please note the issue of SP1 has been escalated due the the complaints of the many... For the time being I would suggest removal of SP1 for Office if you have installed AND if you have not DO NOT...

Re: Firefox 6 released
I installed Fx 6 but I don't see any of the feature changes they speak about in the "What's New?" blurb.
I'm running on XP Pro SP3. Are the new features only for Win7 users?
