Morning all.
My laptop came with Internet Explorer 11 which I'm getting used to now and I like.
When I click on an HTML shortcut on my C:\ drive to run a study course I downloaded, the pages come up in an old style of Internet Explorer.
If I copy the text from the address bar in the old version and paste into the address bar in the new version it works fine.
Is there a default selection I can use to make the course run in the new version of Internet Explorer please?
Regards
Graeme

Re: Internet Explorer 11 Defaults
I assume you are referring to the different between the desktop version (old style) and the metro version (new style) of IE?
Have a look at this link and adjust the settings to always ensure that links open in the appropriate version you want.
Some jmore details about it:

And an interesting comparison of pro's and con's between the two styles:

Re: Internet Explorer 11 Defaults
Thanks for the reply Rudi. That's exactly the option I was looking for.
When I got the new laptop it had Windows 8.1 on it and Internet Explorer 11 and I had no knowledge of either. I quite like the new clean feel but I'll like it more when I get used to the touch pad and stop accidently alt tabbing every time I move the cursor towards the right!!

Happy to assist.
PS: What do you mean by "stop accidentally alt tabbing every time I move the cursor towards the right!!"

Re: Internet Explorer 11 Defaults
You can use the laptop touch pad to switch between programmes by sweeping in from the left hand side so if you're not careful moving the curser from left to right on the screen ends up changing between programmes like an alt tab key press combination.
In the same way sweeping in from the right brings up options and a clock.

Re: Internet Explorer 11 Defaults
Ah, yes... that is the gesturing features of the touch pad. I forgot about those as I switch them off with every laptop or OS change. I dislike the gestures on the touchpad and the hot corners in Windows 8.1. I disable all these to avoid the issues that you mention. You can still swop applications using ALT-Tab, or Win+[Number Keys] if your hands are on the keyboard instead of the mouse.

Thanks Rudi.
I am well up for disabling the Swipe Gestures.
How do you open the Touchpad Properties dialog box?!

Hi,
You can go to Control Panel
Access the Mouse Options
In my screenshot I have a tab called UltraNav (this is the settings for a Lenovo Laptop) - Yours could be called something else like Synoptics, etc??
Access the Touchpad settings and make your choices....

Nice one, thanks Rudi. Side swipes are now disabled. And I got a free video instruction on two finger scrolling which I didn't know about into the bargain!

Cool
There are a few nifty gestures that some persons find handy (even a pinch zoom option, on my Lenovo at least).
Since I'm a plain Joe, most of mine are disabled though. It keeps life simpler
