Bar Code Scanner in Acces 2007

Post by MSingh »

Hi,

Can a bar code scanner be integrated with Access 2007 eg. in an inventory database?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated or Can you point me to some good reading material please.

Thanks again
Mohamed

Many bar code scanners do not need any special software - they will act like a keyboard: click in a text box on a form in your database, then scan a barcode. It will be as if you typed the product code that you scanned.
Best wishes,

As Hans said, many barcode scanners don't need any special software. What is called a "wedge" scanner will come with a Y-connector cable; both the keyboard and scanner plug into the upper "arms" of the Y, then base of the Y plugs into the PC.

Scanners are also programmable to a certain extent. Especially important is having it add a tab character to whatever it reads. This way after the scan you will move to the next field. It is pretty easy, just follow the instructions in the manual.
