Office 365

Post by Carol W. »

We are looking into the possibility of recommending Office 365 to a nonprofit that uses an Access application we developed. It is a customized app with a good deal of VBA code behind the scenes. We just distributed a second copy of the front end to a second machine and linked it to the data on the primary machine. So far, so good, although this was just done yesterday. Now the user wants it deployed to a third machine. That brings us to think "cloud".

This nonprofit may be eligible for a TechSoup discount on Office 365 Business Premium for nonprofits (if it's available through TS). From what we've read, this is the version that includes Access.

We're looking for any information on the suitability of Office 365 Business Premium for an application as described above. Any comments would be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Office 365 includes two versions of the Office applications:

On Windows machines, you can run the full version - the applications are streamed to the PC. The full versions support VBA. The full version of Access can run your application.

On PCs, Macs, tablets and smart phones, you can run the online versions. They "live" entirely in the browser, they aren't installed locally. The online versions don't support VBA. The online version of Access wouldn't be suitable for your VBA-heavy application.
Best wishes,
Hans
