Acc2007 - select record in table and not in form??

Post by ErikJan »

When one has a table and a form (based on that table), in Acc2003, when one selects a record in the Table and then switches to the form, also there, that same record would be selected. I haven't tried everything just yet but it seems as if in Acc2007 that 'link' doesn't work anymore... Is it me? Is it an option that needs to be enabled? Is it something else?

I can't remember such a feature ever having worked in any version of Access.

Access 2007 and later do have a related feature though: the split form. A split form displays the same data in form view and datasheet view, and selecting a record in one part automatically selects the same record in the other part. See Create a split form.
Best wishes,
Hans

I just called someone who claimed this always worked for him. He just tried this again, just now again in Acc2003. And I have confirmation that this works and has always worked. Any idea? Maybe this is an option??

Are you sure that it's a table, and not a datasheet form? I simply don't believe that it's possible with a table, whether in Access 2003 or in any other version.
Best wishes,
Hans

Looks as if you are right. Where is the datasheet view in Access 2007?

Open the form.
Click the lower part of the View button on the Home tab of the ribbon. If Datasheet view is allowed, it should be in the list.
To set Datasheet view as default view, open the form in Design view.
Activate the Format tab of the ribbon.
The Default View property determines how the form will be opened initially.
The Allow Datasheet View property whether Datasheet view will be among the views offered for the form.

If the two forms are synchronized, there must be code behind the datasheet form that takes care of this, probably in its On Current event.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Best wishes,

Yep, that's it. Sorry about my confusion. Strange that where the datasheet view (because that's indeed what it was) was visible as a view for a form by default in Access 2003, it's no longer the case in 2007 and beyond and one has to enable that property for each form once.
Again, once that is done everything looks as before.
