I want to add a new chart to PP 2013. When I insert a chart, it insert a chart based on my last one. It opens Excel, with a previously saved spreadsheet. I don't want that. I want a brand new, simple chart.
I will create a new chart in Excel, but since I want a very, very simple chart, just to emphasize a point, this is annoying. Am I missing something or does M$ think they are smarter than I am?

PowerPoint always inserts a sample chart. You can modify it to suit your needs.

It is not bringing up a sample chart so much as it is bringing up the last chart. It is opening my closed workbook and putting me into the data table of a perfectly good set of data. I did use that chart on the presentation as well, but I want a new and different one.

How did you create the first chart? By Insert > Chart in PowerPoint, or did you create it in Excel, then copied and pasted it into PowerPoint?
Best wishes,
Hans

Re: Create new Chart PP 2013
Strange, I tried this scenario (copy/paste the first chart from Excel, then selected Insert > Chart in PowerPoint for the second one), and it gave me the sample chart I always get when I select Insert > Chart.
Make sure that the first chart isn't selected when you click Chart on the Insert tab of the ribbon. That will merely overwrite the first chart...

I get the same results as Hans...
The second chart is created as a sample chart unless the first chart is selected at the point of inserting a new chart. If this is the case, it simply gets overwritten.
