How to import web

Post by bknight »

I have this web page that has data in the form of
Block 1
Field1 Field2 Field 3

All the data is presented and a 2nd and 3rd block follow with using the same format. There is a blank row in between the blocks.
What steps would be necessary to import into a sreadsheet. I could then cut and paste the data to make it a horizontal presentation, instead of a vertical that exists on the web page.

On the Data tab of the ribbon, in the Get & Transform group, click From Web.
Enter the URL of the web page and click OK.
Best wishes,
Hans

Well I get two errors. The first is a script error when the web access is selected, and then the second error when the web page is entered.
I looked in the Excel options Advance for TLS 1, 1.1 ,1.2 but could find them. 2007 version.

Since there was no reply, I went ahead and copied the data and put it into a format that is usable. I doing so I have a long formula that contains some error

Code: Select all

="{"&B9&C9&D9&E9&F9&G9&H9&I9&J9&K9&L9&M9&N9&O9&P9&Q9&R9&S9&T9&U9&V9&X9&Y9&Z9&AA9&AB9&AB9&AC9&AD9&AE9&AF9&AG9&AH9&AI9&AJ9&AK9&AL9&AM9&AN9&AO9&AP9&AQ9&AR9&AS9&AT9&AU9&AW9&AX9&AY9&AZ9&BA9&BB9&BC9&BD9&BE9&BF9&BG9&BH9&BI9&BJ9&BK9&BL9&BM9&BN9&BO9&BP9&BQ9&br9&BS9&BT9&BS9&BT9&BU9&bv9&bw9&BX9&BY9&BZ9&CA9&CB9&CC9&CD9&CE9&CF9&CG9&CH9&CI9&CJ9&CK9&CL9&CM9&CN9&CO9&CP9&CQ9&CR9&CS9&CT9&CU9&CV9&"};"
this is a direct copy and notice that almost all of the formula was "compiled" except for bv9 and bw9. What would I change to correct the formula?

It's only been 15 hours since your post about the errors ... and it's Sunday. Not really surprised there wasn't an immediate answer ...

The browser engine - Trident - used by Excel is a bit outdated, I'm afraid, and is pretty much IE 11. As a result there are (increasing numbers) of sites that do not work properly with it - that's your first error (the scripting error). And Trident doesn't support TLS1.3*, which is required by the site you are accessing in the second image, and for various reasons cannot fail back to earlier TLS protocols to negotiate a successful connection- even if you enable them in the Advanced Internet Options dialog. One indicator of this is an event in the Windows System eventlog: EventID 36871 - A fatal error occurred while creating a TLS client credential. The internal error state is 10013.

* Not quite true. Trident uses something called Schannel to implement TLS, and in Windows 11 Schannel was upgraded to support TLS1.3 which consequently means Trident does
