F11 full screen shortcut (in Word2003, for starters)

Post by ChrisGreaves »

Just curious is all.
I find myself actually Reading Word documents rather than creting or modifying them; quite a new experience for me.
I tried the F11 key which in various other applications (browsers? PDF readers?) seemed to be a standard assignment.
Not so in Word2003!
This page put me on the right track, and now F11 does what it I think ought to - Toggle Full Screen mode.

I am left scratching my head why there is/was not a function key assigned to this toggle.
Cheers
Chris

F11 is the built-in keyboard shortcut for "Move to the next field" - if the document contains fields, of course.

See Keyboard shortcuts in Word.
Best wishes,
Hans

So it is!
I didn't know that.
Now I have gained a useful shortcut that I didn't have AND lost one that I didn't know I had.
(We need another new smiley, for running in one spot and getting nowhere.
We could label it :chris:)

Thanks, Hans.

See my page on function keys: http://www.addbalance.com/word/functionkeys.htm.
I used to have templates and stickers for my keyboards.
Take special note at the bottom of that page. There is a toolbar available in Word 2003 tha displays the function keys and their functions dynamically at the bottom of the screen.

Code: Select all

 Commandbars("Function Key Display")
Here is my writing on keyboard shortcuts, including Function keys, that deal with fields:

Here is Microsoft's page on keyboard shortcuts in recent versions.
(they leave many out, and some have changed with the Ribbon)

Here is my article on how to find out what shortcuts you have:

Finally, here is my downloads page with Chris Woodman's keyboard shortcut organizer:
http://addbalance.com/word/download.htm#ChrisWoodman
(for Word 2003, you want the original .dot from 2002 rather than the Ribbon version)

Cooler than cool (but not quite as cool as Bonavista right now)

I plunked that bit of code into a "Sub Test" and ran it.
Nada. Zilch.
I carefully dragged my toolbars to the screen one by one and closed them.
Still nothing.
I then opened View Toolbars and scratched my head.
Next came Tools, Customize, Toolbars and Word2003 insisted that it was checked ON.
I switched to scratching my head with both hands and it was then I saw the toolbar running along the bottom of the window.
I soon put it in its place!

I see that <F8> needs a bit of work ... maybe I will assign <F8> to my Sub Test
Thanks, Charles.
