Recovered Files Pane - Word 2003

Post by DaveInPitt »

When opening Word, the Recovered Files pane opens. If I attempt to recover the files, they are not found. I want to remove the files from the Recovered Files pane but it will not allow me since the local copy of the files do not exist. Does anyone know how I can remove the files? Thanks :thankyou:

You might try clearing all temporary files with a utility such as CCleaner - see CCleaner 2.35 released.

If that doesn't help, you could create empty documents with the same name as those listed in the Document Recovery pane. Then quit Word, move the documents into the folder where the recovered files are supposed to be, and start Word again.
Best wishes,
Hans

Thanks for the suggestions Hans. I'll try this. Are you familiar with CCleaner? Is it a good, safe and reliable utility to install and run?

Yes, CCleaner is reliable and very popular with Loungers, and with its default settings it is safe to use.

Here's all the steps I performed to try to resolve my issue with the Recovered Files:

If you try to delete or restore the recovered files, you receive an error that the file cannot be found.
+++++++++++++++++++++
Restored the .asd file (the auto recovery temp file) from Recycle Bin. Issue Remains
+++++++++++++++++++++++
Exported the document from Desksite into echo directory and nrprtbl directories. Issue remains
+++++++++++++++++++++++
Replaced his normal.dot template. Issue remains
+++++++++++++++++++++++
Created a new Auto Recover directory location in Tools, Options, File Locations - Issue remains
+++++++++++++++++++++++
Searched the Registry for Word\Auto Recovery options, none found
+++++++++++++++++++++++
Ran Repair on Office. - Didn't work, issue remains
+++++++++++++++++++++++
Uninstalled\reinstalled Office - Didn't work, issue remains

HMMMMMMMMM :scratch:

After some searching, I assume that you mean the document management system (Autonomy) Interwoven Desksite. Apparently there is a problem on that side, not on the Word side. So repairing or reinstalling Word won't help; you should let Interwoven clean up the mess they created.
Best wishes,
Hans

Did you go to the folder where the Word file is, and remove ALL temp files from that folder?

To which it may be worth adding that you may not be able to see all the temp files there unless you set Windows (temporarily at least) to show hidden files and folders, and not hide protected operating system files - see screenshot for the dialog box to do this.
