When I select text and then press alt + shift + left or right, all heading levels in the selected text are upgraded (moved up) or downgraded (moved down).
Sometimes I need to select a very large portion of text in a section of a document and rather than scroll through page by page, I click the arrow next to the top level to collapse everything under the heading. I then select the collapsed header. However, when I press alt + shift + left or right, only the selected heading, not all the sub-headings, move left or right.
Is there an easier way to select everything under a heading so that I can shift the headings or otherwise make changes i want to apply across the expanded text, not just to the heading?

Have you tried in the Navigation Pane or in Outline View?
When I collapse a heading in the Navigation Pane, I can right-click on it and promote or demote. The change applies to all headings in the collapsed area.

Thanks Charles. The Navigation Pane technique worked for me.
