I downloaded LibreOffice some weeks back. Until today, I have only used the Calc app. Today, when I try to load the Writer app, nothing seems to happen. The app appears when I use the search function. When I choose it, I get a little spinning circle indicative of an app loading, but it never appears in my taskbar nor in Task Manager.
Anyone here a LibreOffice maven? Can you help me understand why Writer won't load?

Re: Can't Get LibreOffice Writer to Load
Hi Bob. My answers to your questions are "No" and "No" respectively. That said, this is what I see when I type "libre" into the command search box in Win7. There is/was a pause of about three seconds between the appearance of first two items and the other six.
When I choose "LibreOffice Writer" it takes about ten seconds to load itself.
If that doesn't work for you, then try "Libre Office".
And if that doesn't work for you, then try "Libre Office (Safe Mode)."
I haven't used LibreOffice a lot, yet, too much other stuff going on, so i don't know whether the beast is just horrendously slow to load or whether I have hit a bad day here.
Best of Luck.

Thanks, Chris.
I found a solution. It required restarting Windows. When I did so, I was able to load LibreOffice Writer without difficulty.

OK. Next time it happens - and it will - first trying pulling up Task Manager Ctr;+Alt+Del and see what, if anything, is hogging the CPU?
Cheers, Chris

Did that. It has become one of my first de-bug efforts.

Re: Can't Get LibreOffice Writer to Load
The Libre Calc has many uses.
It can open a *.xlsx when Excel2003 cannot!
Useful when a would-be client ends me an XLSX that is just raw sample data.
Cheers, Chris

Just as a point of interest, you can use Powershell to convert XLSX to XLS

Re: Can't Get LibreOffice Writer to Load
Hi Bob; Just a quick heads-up: I took a look at Libre Base last week, part of a quick look-see to check that Libre Write would support mail-merge (it does!).
Cheers, Chris

Re: Can't Get LibreOffice Writer to Load
You may need to run:
Install-Module -Name ImportExcel
after which, something like the following will convert xlsx to xls. (there is a lot more you can do with this powershell module).
import-excel "D:\Downloads\DeleteMe\source.xlsx" -noheader | export-excel "D:\Downloads\DeleteMe\destination.xls"
