Compatible Inkjet Printers for Linux Ubuntu 11.10

Hi - can anyone recommend a compatible inkjet printer for Ubuntu 11.10? I installed Linux for a friend who got wiped out by a virus on a Windows XP laptop and they no longer had a valid XP license. Their existing Lexmark printer does not support Linux, plus it's about 7 years old. Thanks for any recommendations!

I know nothing about Ubuntu but a Google search on:

How does one lose the license when the number is on the machine?

Most OEM's will help you out with a clean install on most laptops.

For those who are interested, I found out that HP supplies a broad range of printers that support Linux. Also, Epson. You can download Linux drivers from the HP site, but the drivers do not ship with the device. For Epson models, you are linked out to a Linux support site to perform the driver download.

Also, Linux (11.10) by default has many built in drivers from many different manufacturers.
