Android 2.2 (Froyo) upgrade

My Samsung Captivate came with Android 2.1 (Eclair) but the 2.2 upgrade became available last week. I jumped through all the hoops to install it, but aside from cosmetic improvements, I haven't seen much performance improvement,and I find that my battery charges slower and discharges at inconsistent rates. Maybe it's just that my usage isn't for music and video that I'm not seeing a great difference, but I'd like to know what others have experienced.

Just as an update: I discovered that quite a few apps under Froyo have constant updates turned on (i.e., news apps, weather, etc.). Once I disabled or completely uninstalled those apps, the battery life appears to be about the same as it was.
