Trying to update my Mint xfce installation.
It said 300 and something updates available but on starting the process it then said:
Some of the packages could not be retrieved from the server(s).
Do you want to continue, ignoring these packages?
I clicked yes and it then seemed to do a fair bit but it ended with:
An error occurred
and gave lots of details, all of which started
W:Failed to fetch http://security.ubuntu.com/..." onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.
and ended 404 Not found and an IP address
I seem to have 6 updates left that won't install.
Any suggestions?
Ken
edited to add; I've rebooted a couple of times to see if that helped, it didn't

Re: Mint xfce updates failing
It's not unknown for the server to be down. Have a look in the updater settings (the battery on my Linux laptop is flat :( so I can't check to see where the settings are) and make sure you've selected UK sources for updates. If they are ok, then try at a different time of day (I tend to do updates at roughly the same time weekly, and it was a couple of weeks before it occured to me that maybe the servers get their updates at the same time...if you see what I mean.)
You could also have a wee look here https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SoftwareUpdates#Update_settings" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Mint xfce updates failing
Thank you John, I'll point stuckling1 at your reply as I've handed the laptop over to him now.
