can't update Win9x at Windows Update

In this post I suggested you watch out for something here, so here it is. Except it's not coming from the old ME box I'd revived with it's OEM system restore option.

I was able to install a wifi dongle on the PC and connect to my router but as the restore had rolled IE back to v5.5 I thought my first port of call on the Internet should be Windows Update to fully patch the OS (not that doing that would make it exactly secure). However the PC wouldn't connect to Windows update and it turns out that MS have switched off all the Win 9x update servers so the only way to patch ancient systems is via the various unofficial service packs.

I'm not going to bother, I was only playing.
