I doubt it, but try excluding Outlook from the indexed locations.

I was able to exclude all butOutlook from the list.
I'll run for half a day and see if things improve.
A new career in vermicomposting seems more appealing by the day ...

A Google Search turned up this thread and I was working my way through the responses when I came to the text "Right click on a directory that's normally slow to load and select properties. On the customize tab, make sure Optimize this folder for: is set to "General Items." If it isn't, select general items and also apply to all subfolders.".
I have implemented this and for the past 5 minutes the sluggishness has abated.

I'm going to run with this for the rest of the day (typing with my fingers crossed)
