I want to disable the auto restarts after updates, which can cause me to lose information. Several web sites give instructions beginning with typing "gpedit.msc" (without the quotes) into the search line or into run (see, for example, http://www.ehow.com/how_5573302_disable ... start.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). However, when I do this, nothing is found. This was also the case for another computer I have running Windows XP.
How can I disable these restarts in the computer running Windows 7?

Re: Disable automatic restart after updates
The easiest way to prevent this would be to configure Windows update so that it downloads the updates and advises you to install them, rather than automatically installing them.
gpedit.msc runs the group policy editor. With Windows XP, the group policy editor was only available if you were running the professional version, it wasn't include in XP home. What version of Windows 7 do you have?

Re: Disable automatic restart after updates
Probably as Stuart said, I have Win 7 64 bit Home Premium and there is no group policy edit available.jmt356 wrote:I want to disable the auto restarts after updates, which can cause me to lose information.
