Find your computer's IP address
You might need your computer's IP address if you set up an Internet connection, allow other people to connect to your computer, or need to troubleshoot network problems.
1. Control Panel, Network Connections.
2. Select an active network connection, and then, in the toolbar, click View status of this connection. (You might need to click the chevron >> to find this command.)
3. Click Details.
4. Your computer's IP address appears in the Value column, next to IPv4 Address.

Or you can
1. Click on the Windows button
2. In the "start search" box type cmd
3. In the command prompt, type ipconfig /all
4. All your network adapters will be listed. Please find the one that describes your wireless card in the Description field
5. Once you have located the appropriate adapter, the Physical Address listed below the description is your MAC address.

I agree that the use of a 192.168.x.0/24 subnet is not particularly interesting, but I think it is good practice to keep IP addresses and subnet details private. The more information a hacker can get about your network the easier the job of breaking in.

This is very unclear to me. Following Dave's instructions seems to produce an IPv4 address in the range 192.168.x.y. My understanding (I think confirmed by John) is that this is an internal IP address. How does one find the unique (but not necessarily static) address by which one is known to the world, the one needed to allow someone to connect (as Dave suggests) to your computer or that a (shudder!) hacker would need to attack you?

Go to IP Info - Find your IP address to see your IP address as it appears to the outside world.

Yes, the posted information is for the INTERNAL IP address on your local network.
Finding your ISP IP address is another story and it may not always be the same, depends on your ISP.

Of course if you're using a router you can always check its "status" for your real IP address.
