Removing dual boot Windows 7 RC

Post by DaveA »

Now that Windows 7 RC will be needed to be removed in the near future, those of you that are dual booting you will need to do the following:

To clean up (the short version):

1) While in XP or Vista, insert the DVD for Windows 7 ( a Vista DVD can also be used) in to your DVD drive
2) From the OS on the C drive, drop to the command line (Run cmd.exe)
3) Change to the DVD drive, then do a CD to \boot
4) Type "bootsect /nt52 c:" (or whatever your OS drive is. without the quotes, of course.
5) Exit the command line and reboot
6) You should now no longer have the dual boot options and go straight in to XP
7) Delete, on the C: drive, the \Boot directory, along with the files boot.bak, bootsect.bak and bootmgr. Ignore the fact that they are System files, as they no longer are.
8) Now go ahead and reformat the Windows 7 RC drive
