Actually this looks like quite a sensible approach to me. It will make it much easier for normal users to keep their systems suitably patched.

In reply to HansV I use win7 ultimate To StuartR the problem I have with this method is you cannot remove telemetry and other spyware and if an update craters your computer your chances of removing it are greatly reduced Just look at the debacle of win10 updates.

Or even a Mac and see if you have control of the updates there!

I see no issues with what Microsoft is doing. As for Windows 10, I have seen NO debacle of any kind.

I suppose it is always possible that O&O will bring out a version of their ShutUp10 utility which will work on Windows 7 and Windows 8 as well as Windows 10.
You could write to them and ask, maybe?
