My desktop retarted unexpected and now when I reboot, I have two options to choose from for Windows 7; the first one works but the second one fails to boot to Windows. I'm using Windows Home Premium.
How do I go about tweaking the system so the second option does not appear and the system boots normally?
Thanks,
John

Re: Windows 7 Boot Manager
Try this:
- Click the Start button.
- Type msconfig in the search box.
- Windows should display msconfig.exe in the list of search results.
- Right-click msconfig.exe and select 'Run as Administrator' from the popup menu.
- In System Configuration, activate the Boot tab.
You should see the startup options here.

Re: Windows 7 Boot Manager
I'd have a look to see what EasyBCD finds.... There's a little more of a writeup here.

I'm not having any luck resolving this challenge. I have tried to run the "bcdedit /enum" as an Administrator and am being returned the following message:

Why are you trying to run EasyBCD from a command prompt?jstevens wrote:I'm not having any luck resolving this challenge. I have tried to run the "bcdedit /enum" as an Administrator and am being returned the following message:Regards,

You should be able to install the utility and run it from within the OS.
There is a WIn 7 version available here: Use that one instaed of V 1.72.

Re: Windows 7 Boot Manager
John wasn't running EasyBCD, but the command line utility BCDEdit.

Re: Windows 7 Boot Manager
Bob,
I installed the Windows 7 version for BCDEdit and I am unable to see the file (extension BCD) that contains the boot information relative to the two versions of Window 7 that the "Windows Boot Manager" says I have.
I should clarify that I can see many files with the extension BCD but cannot locate the file with the boot information.
Any assistance would truly be appreciated.

John

Re: Windows 7 Boot Manager
Can you find BCD and BCD.log in c:\Boot? Of course, it's a hidden folder.

Re: Windows 7 Boot Manager
I found a resolution to my problem; unable to read the boot file for editing.
1. Go to Disk Management
2. Find the 100MB partition [System Reserved-Partition]
3. Assign a Drive letter to it - I assigned Drive W
4. Use EasyBCD ver 2.0 to edit the Boot file; selected the Boot file from the Drive Letter assigned in Item #3
5. Deleted the 2nd choice for Windows 7
6. Edited the time field so that Windows starts on zero seconds.
7. Saved the file
8. Removed the Drive Letter assignment in Item#3
9. Rebooted
10. Had a to celebrate.
